Laura Mann is an art and design groupie based in Toronto. She’s bringing in a whole NEW roster of artists, galleries, and creative ideas that don’t make their way south of the border. So, with that, we are pleased to introduce Mason Lane Canada. Laura will be styling walls up north, creating residential and corporate spaces that are simply gorgeous. This all means that we’re using more ideas to style more walls in better ways. Win. Win. Win.

…I’m beyond excited to join the Mason Lane team and I am so looking forward to introducing you to all the creativity happening in Canada, starting with three of my favorite artists that I’ve followed for years and personally collected. This is just a taste...
1. Kelly Mark
Kelly Mark’s work has a witty and snarky tone that I love. She works in sculpture, drawing, photography and video and her perspective on contemporary culture is consistently presented in beautiful, minimalist way.
Example A:
The left is a wall sculpture and the right is a wearable editioned wristwatch.
Example B:
A Letraset is an old-school device that made typefaces for typewriters. Mark uses this vintage tool to create incredible abstract drawings. Each one is made by transferring thousands of tiny letters and symbols on to the paper. The process is labor intensive and the end product is remarkable with details and balance that have a notable visual appeal.

2. Kristiina Lahde
Like Mark, Kristiina Lahde explores her environment, but she focuses on everyday objects that we know, but often overlook. Here, she showcases the paperclip in an out-of-context display - each one looks staged and poised with a flat white background and dramatic shadow that has a beautiful tone.

Here’s another called Ten-fold. It showcases the sculptural potential of a piece of letter-sized paper. This is a favorite and check it out installed in Project Montreal.
3. Martin Golland
Martin Golland creates beautiful paintings of imaginary architectural spaces that are almost dream-like. The color palettes are strong and the pieces are dynamic.

And, as a related aside, Golland’s paintings can work exceptionally well in the company of other paintings, as well as more muted, quiet pieces because the best collections have balance.
